How is it played ?

There are only 5  teams per division.  Every team will play each other once. Face-offs are only after goals. Penalty Shot instead of  penalties. NO TIME OUTS. Stop clock ONLY when there is a one goal differential during the last 2 minutes of a game. Teams will play every 30  to 45 minutes.Top 4 teams make the play offs...  Seatings are  based on total points. ( Check rules below)

    4 vs 4 ICE Rules

    Home Teams - Dark

    Away Teams - Light

    Proof of age is required.

Each Team will play a four game minimum. Winners in each division will play a total of  6 games in 4.5 to 5 hours. Winners in 4 team division will play 5 games. Minor penalties are  Penalty shots at the end of the game. Most teams receive a 30 to 45 minute rest between games, except the play off games. Do not leave the rink. Games will start on time, regardless if you have all 4 players on the ice  or not. No mercy rule will apply. Also teams are suggested NOT to eat heavy lunches or garbage foods. Example: Hot dogs, pizza, soda, candy bars, and energy drinks.
*USA HOCKEY rules are used, except un-sportsman like penalties. If there is an abuse of the rules at the end of a game, the penalty can carry over.

    The games are:
12 minute running clock (stops for officials time outs)
    3 points for a win
2 points for a win by shoot out
1 point for a lost by shoot out.
1 point for tie after shoot out.
If the game ends in a tie, there will be a sudden death shoot out. If the sudden death shoot out ends in tie, the game is a tie. If the Championship game ends in a tie, a standard shoot- out will determine the winner.

Breaks in the schedule are “catch up” times or Zamboni time . They are never taken unless the game officials or tournament director(s) use them. Shoot’s outs etc.

OFF-SIDES - A player is allowed to skate over the blue line without the puck, but cannot receive the puck until the puck is skated over the blue line by a team mate. The rule will be explained to every player before the tournament starts.

Face offs only happen after a score, or after the puck leaves the rink. After a stop, there will be a quick whistle. The goalie will then pass the puck behind his net. The opposing team will back off the puck by 12 feet. Play will resume when the ref says “play”. NOTE: If the goalie tries to make a quick forward pass, the back off rule is nullified.Shoot Outs Each tied team selects in order shooters 1-4*

Game officials will decide which team shoots first by coin toss. Shoot outs are sudden death

during the round robin and standard in the play offs. When one team scores and the other does

not in a given round, the shoot out ends. Rounds are (selected player #1) vs.(selected player #1),

(selected player #2) vs. (selected player #2), etc. If the teams are still tied the game ends in a tie.

If the shoot out is during the play offs or final the round begins again. !

1*When a team is playing with less than 5 skaters due to suspension, injury etc., the tournament director (s) or game officials (when necessary) will decide the number of shooters each team may use.

    Rankings

Each team will play in preliminary round(s) to determine rankings. The following determines rankings and tie breakers:

    Most Points
    Head to Head
    Most Wins
    Fewest goals against
    Most shutouts
    Fewest penalty shots

    Goal differential

    Shoot-Out

All ties end in a sudden death shoot outs Minor penalties are two minutes running clock Major penalty results in a game misconduct. By discretion of tournament director(s) or game officials, penalized player(s) maybe suspended for the next game. Teams may start with only 3 skaters.

ABUSIVE AND PROFANE LANGUAGE will not be tolerated. FIGHTING also not tolerated! Automatic game ejection and maybe a game suspension, by discretion of the tournament director. If more then one player on a team is ejected, the tournament director(s) and game officials may choose whether that team must forfeit their next game or have the suspended players stagger their suspensions. This rule also applies in the case of suspensions due to major penalties.

ALL TEAMS HAVE TO BE IN THE RINK 30 MINUTES BEFORE THEIR DIVISION STARTS. TEAM WILL HAVE GAME TIMES, BUT NOT TEAM NAMES ON THE SCHEDULE. Teams will know who they play 30 minutes before the division starts.  This is to insure all teams are there before their division starts. If you have any concerns or questions, please speak to the tournament director or e-mail us at milo@ultimatehockey.
